But all the time he is pursued by the mysterious Monks, who hires Fagin to turn Oliver into a thief. Oliver is rescued by chance and kind friends. But it's a puzzle of legitimacy, inheritance, and identity that Oliver's friends must attempt to unravel before Monks can destroy Oliver.
Adapted from the 1838 novel by Charles Dickens; this version follows the book more closely than any of the other film adaptions. The series premiered on Sun Oct 13, 1985 on BBC One and Episode Twelve last aired on Sun Dec 29, 1985.
