This made-for-TV Christmas special is the story of J.R. Cooper (Gary Coleman) who is a batboy for the San Diego Padres. J.R.'s father, Larry (Robert Guillaume), is a past Major League player, and he secretly advises J.R. on how to turn the Padres into a winning team. J.R. passes along the advice, and the Padres begin winning. In fact, the Padres make it to the World Series, and J.R. is appointed team manager.
