Completing his theological studies in a richly appointed Islamic seminary in Teheran, country-bred Seyyed Hassan hesitates to don the turban and robes that would make him a mullah. One day a street boy, Joujeh, providentially steals the material Hassan bought to have the clothes made. His search for the boy leads him to a community of homeless men living under a heavily trafficked bridge. His contact with these wretched but spiritually honest outcasts fulfills him in a way that religious life cannot.
